A heat and moisture exchanger works as an artificial nose – it helps to heat and moisturize inhaled air. It retains humidity in the airways that would otherwise be lost by breathing through an open tracheostoma. As a result many users experience fewer problems with coughing and mucus production. The Provox® HME cassette
The HME cassettes are the core of Atos Medical’s product line for pulmonary rehabilitation and are intended to be placed in front of the tracheostoma.
The Provox® HME Cassette facilitates manual stoma occlusion with the help of a simple lid/spring-valve mechanism, thereby improving speech as well as hygiene. It is designed with side openings, which means that:
- the HME can be discreetly hidden;
- there will be no wet stains on the clothing;
- inhaled air can be drawn from the warming body rather than directly from the surrounding air.
